This is one of my most frequently asked questions, and it can vary greatly depending on the type of session.
Newborn Sessions - 2.5 - 3.5 Hours
Including setup and breakdown time, most newborn sessions take 2.5 - 3.5 hours. Much of this depends on how cooperative baby is for their photos. We often take breaks for baby to eat or sometimes they just need a little more time being rocked and cuddled to get nice and sleepy. I only schedule one newborn session per day, so if baby is a little fussy and needs a little more time that isn’t a problem. I do recommend not scheduling anything else for the day of their photo session, so if photos do take a little longer I have plenty of time to get a beautiful variety of images for their gallery.
Toddlers and Young Children - 45 Minutes - 1 Hour
Young children toddlers are always on the move, and can lose interest in a session pretty quickly. I try to keep sessions fun and fast paced to get a nice variety of poses and expressions. It’s usually about 45 minutes to 1 hour of session time. If we are using my portable studio set-up I recommend leaving an extra 30 minutes or so for setting up, and packing up at the end of the session.
Family Sessions - 1 Hour
Most family session take about 1 hour. If young children are present for the family photos I sometimes have a fast paced session to accommodate their needs and attention span. If we are using my portable studio set-up I recommend leaving an extra 30 minutes or so for setting up, and packing up at the end of the session.
