Affordable Photography - Wilmington, Delaware

If I had a dime for every time I saw a post “I’m looking for a photographer who doesn’t charge an arm and a leg”… And for a long time I’ve wondered exactly what clients meant by that. But after talking with several clients I get that this can mean different things for different people.

Behind the Scenes Work

There are some who don’t appreciate all the work that photographers put into a session and may not understand why a "1 hour session" can start at a couple hundred dollars. Wouldn’t we all love to make a minimum of a couple hundred dollars for a days work? But some of the behind the scenes work that goes into a “1 hour session”:

- Consultations with their client so they can plan the best customized session

- Prep time before the session (which could also include acquiring different props), and styling the session to best meet clients’ style and preferences

- The actual time photographing the session

- Travel time to and from the session (for on location sessions)

- Laundry (for newborn sessions). So much laundry!!!

- Curating the images from the session to make clients selection process easier

- Editing images for proofs

- Creating and sending a sneak peek to the client

- Meeting with clients to view images, and assist in picking out their favorites

- Editing the final images

- So many other tasks as a small business owner that includes maintaining their website, marketing, and creating social media so my clients can even find me in the first place

These are just some of the things that go into a session that take time and effort, outside of just the time photographing clients.

Budget Friendly Pricing for Growing Families

Other clients appreciate exactly how much effort can go into their session, but have come across a lot of the photographers that are higher priced, and think that is now the norm. I recently had a client who wanted a one year session for her son. After searching online, she concluded she wouldn’t be able to afford one year portraits. Every photographer she found had prices starting at a minimum of $1000, and I get it, these rates are simply out of the budget for many families. While there are a lot of photographers with this pricing structure, there are still photographers who are charging a rate that is more budget friendly for a growing family. The important thing is that you find a photographer that not only fits into your budget, but also has work that you love, and will capture the images you will love and want to display.

Portraits by Ambre has been committed to keeping prices lower, so growing families can still have great family photos. We have family packages starting at $250 and head shot packages beginning at only $125.
